Lucky Joshua - his birthday was technically today, but he ended up with a birthday weekend with his party on Saturday and then a family adventure today. We drove north to Beaverton and took their Max line into the Portland. The plan was to then take the streetcar to a gondola that carries passengers up the hill to a hospital. Unfortunately, the gondola is closed on Sundays so we only did the Max line and the streetcar, but Joshua didn't care. A train AND a streetcar? He was thrilled. And after knowing the BART system in the Bay Area, Leif and I were really impressed with how clean, open and well-lit the Max line is.
Joshua and Elliott, his "Pete's Dragon" that he received for his birthday. We watched the movie recently and he LOVED it. He's very into dragons now, and lighthouses and big ships and storms crashing into the coast. :)
Here comes the streetcar!
Leif's twisted sense of humor. Apparently bicyclists crossing train tracks should use caution...especially if they're missing their front tire.
Stopped at Red Robin for lunch since I knew they made a big deal out of birthdays. And apparently, they use potatoes on steroids to make their fries.
Ok, it was really sweet to watch Joshua's expression as the servers delivered this ginormous sundae. He didn't even look up at them as they sang; it was only as they started walking away that he glanced over at them (poor, tuneless servers - what a sad reward for their efforts). But the funniest part was watching Joshua's reaction as he asked for the cherry on top, and then ate it and realized that while it looked like fruit, it really isn't...
Remember, this is the guy born without a sweet tooth! I think he saw that cherry was and anticipating a real fruit flavor, not the saccharine sweetness of a maraschino! Actually, considering he's still allergic to dairy products, we're very lucky that he has no interest in whipped cream and ice cream. He doesn't even (gasp) like chocolate, so even the fudge was not appealing to him.
Lucky for him Daddy was on standby to help out. :)
