Joshua requested an orange cake for his birthday. Luckily he agreed to let me decorate it as a jack-o'-lantern or it may have just looked like a big sun.
Joshua added the ears!
The party was simple: decorate cookies, play, eat cake. Send sugared children home.
Joshua and his friend, Kieran.
It only appears to the casual observer that Joshua is decorating his cookie. He actually wolfed the first one down with no frosting or topping whatsoever (the best way, according to him), and here he is staring at the cookie his daddy mostly decorated. :)
Gotta love the dollar store - found a bunch of silly glasses there that doubled as favors. The rest of the kids tried them on briefly, then threw them down to return to the playground...Joshua, however, held them to his head for AN HOUR as he played right along with the kids on the structure. :)
"Oh, CAKE? I just wanted it at my party - I didn't actually want to eat it..." And I'm quite serious. He is so not into sweets. The rest of the kids were ecstatic to come to a party with no real food in sight; just sugar and more sugar. Joshua had zero interest in the cake, and had to be persuaded to sit at the table until his friends were done.
Including this just because it looks like he's polishing off this cake on his own. We finally convinced him to try some of the cake with no frosting (WHAT? That's the best part in my world!!) and he actually liked it. A little.
Happy 4th birthday, Joshua!
